Omschrijving
A detailed biography of Ezra Pound (1885-1972), mentioning his antisemitic attitudes during different periods (see the index). Refers to growing antisemitism in the U.S. during the 1870s and in Edwardian society in London. Concludes that Pound's interest in Jews and Judaism was "essentially childish" and he used his antisemitism to tease and outrage his contemporaries. He was very inconsistent; for instance, he was pleased to annoy antisemites by claiming to have many Jewish friends. During the 1930s Pound's increasing antisemitism was influenced by C.H. Douglas and the Social Credit movement. Discusses his fascist and antisemitic radio broadcasts from Italy during World War II and his association of Jews with usury. Mentions his support of the American antisemitic orator Father Charles Coughlin in 1939 and the antisemitism of his disciple John Kasper.
