First edition (a Dutch edition was published one year later.) Complete with the large folded engraved map (54 x 41 cm) by A. Lavaux and 3 folded plates, i.a. the ‘beestenmolen’ and the ‘tentboot’. The book is slightly browned and has library stamps in the blank corner of both the title-pages. Fermin (1729-1813), a Dutch physician, did spent 8 years in Surinam. The book has a part on the history of the colony, describes the problem of fugitive slaves, the ineffective government and the poor discipline among the military.
