Omschrijving

For over a century now, a considerable part of the housing stock in large Dutch cities has been owned by housing corporations. Decisions about what is to be done with these properties will influence the social cohesion of the neighbourhood, and the image of the city as a whole. Thus housing corporations play an important role in maintaining the vitality of a changing city.
In Made to Measure Rochdale and the Algemene Woningbouw Vereniging, two Amsterdam housing corporations, and their project developer Delta Forte, show us some of the choices they have made for the renewal of the city. Together, the two corporations own 63,000 dwellings in Amsterdam and the region around it. On the basis of six characteristic projects, this book illuminates interventions of various kinds in the existing city. The emphasis lies on the initiative phase, the phase in which the project plan is drawn up. Among the interventions discussed are the renovation of dwellings on a complex by complex basis, restoration and transformation of ambitious residential buildings, radical renewal of a highrise neighbourhood, multifunctional projects in a highly urbanised environment and the construction of sheltered housing communities.
Made to Measure offers a fascinating picture of the diverse contributions being made by Rochdale, the Algemene Woningbouw Vereniging and the project developer Delta Forte to the future of the city.
